about

The song “Together” was written in Jamaica sometime between 1972 to 1974. I was there as a youth missionary. I didn’t care for reggae when I first arrived in Jamaica. I was a Motown guy all the way. But after hearing reggae every day, the rhythm, smells and sights of Jamaica stuck in my mind. I was hooked and still am. While there I wanted to create a light, authentic reggae style song with a simple message that living together is possible in Christ.

lyrics

Verse 1:

Everybody got to learn how to live together
Everybody got to learn how to love their brother
Everybody got to learn how to love one another

Chorus:
We’ve just got to know we can make it yeah.
He’s the one. He can take it. Yeah Yeah

Verse 2:

Everybody got to see that God is love. yeah.
That he sent to us through Son like a dove. Yeah
Everybody got to see that God is love. yeah.

Chorus:

We’ve just got to know we can make it yeah.
He’s the one. He can take it. Yeah Yeah

Verse 3:

Everybody got learn how to smile at their brother.
Don’t you know it doesn’t matter what the color.
Everybody got learn how to smile at their brother.

Chorus:

We’ve just got to know we can make it yeah.
He’s the one. He can take it. Yeah Yeah

Verse 4:

Everybody got learn how to love the Lord Jesus.
Don’t you know He’s the only one who can please us.
Everybody got learn how to love the Lord Jesus.

Chorus:

We’ve just got to know we can make it yeah.
He’s the one. He can take it. Yeah Yeah

Verse 5:

Everyone got to start lean on the Lord.
He’s the one who bring us one a chord.
Everyone got to start lean on the Lord.

Chorus:

We’ve just got to know we can make it yeah.
He’s the one. He can take it. Yeah Yeah

Vamp:

We can make.
He can take it.
We’ve got to live together. Yeah yeah yeah
